Worst to First – Turning a College Football Disaster Into a Winner

uilding a successful college football program requires several key ingredients. Now that the 2008 campaign has concluded for some truly awful programs, the work to build losers into winners has begun. It is appropriate now, to look at some of the significant elements required for building a winning football program. Included on this list are:

Finding enough Murray State and Western Kentucky football programs to build a schedule around,
Identifying enough alumni who really believe in the institution’s academic focus to give thousands of hard-earned dollars so they can be entertained on autumn Saturdays, and
Figuring out a way to attract some decent athletes that are capable of constructing enough complete sentences to pass Freshman English.

Scheduling

Early pioneers of creative scheduling used to rely on sportswriters to simply pick their team as a contender for the National Championship. In years

New York, NY (Sports Network) – Alabama, by virtue of its 37-21 win over Texas Thursday night in the BCS national championship game, was a unanimous pick for the No. 1 spot in the final Associated Press college football poll.

The Crimson Tide (14-0), who garnered their first national championship since 1992, received all 60 first place votes for a 1,500-point total from a national media panel.

“I think most of us don’t realize how difficult it is, the togetherness that it takes, the discipline and execution that it takes, and certainly the hard work that these guys did,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said. “And we certainly appreciate it and are proud of them and want to congratulate every member of our team and coaching staff for the great coaching that they did.”

Boise State (14-0) was the only other unbeaten team in the

Who Says We Don?t Need Playoffs in College Football?

Who Says We Don?t Need Playoffs in College Football?

USC was the top ranked team for the first 4 weeks of the college football, until they lost to Oregon State in Corvallis.  Oregon State isn’t a bad team, but USC shouldn’t have lost to them.  Their only excuse is that it was a road game.  But, shouldn’t national championship teams be able to win on the road?

The University of Oklahoma took over as the top team for the next 2 weeks until they got beat at the Cotton Bowl by the University of Texas this past weekend.  This is a big rivalry game, so ratings don’t matter when these teams play.  Texas beating Oklahoma isn’t a big upset.

The teams that remain undefeated are Texas, Alabama, Penn State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, BYU, Utah, Tulsa, and Ball State.  Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State all play each over the next 4 weekends.  So, only one of those teams will be undefeated and odds are all of them will suffer a defeat.

BYU and Utah play each other on November

The Marks Vs The Pauls

The Marks vs. The Pauls

Here’s the deal, University of Georgia’s football coach & basketball coach are bothnamed Mark, and Georgia Tech’s football coach & basketball coach are both named Paul. You follow?

Anyway, today, we’re gonna compare all of them and then you have to decide. Mark & Mark vs. Paul & Paul. They come as a set and cannot be split up. There’s a poll set up to see who wins, because what’s the point of pitting Georgia Tech & the University of Georgia against each other if somebody doesn’t win.

The Marks

Richt

Following a little more than a decades worth of disappointment at the hands of Ray Goff & Jim Donnan, Mark Richt came to Athens having coached two Heisman winners & been part of two National Championships. Quite the resume for a young coach. Vince Dooley and Michael Adams loved him, and soon the Georgia faithful would as well. Richt

LSU Tigers 2008 College Football Team Preview

LSU Tigers 2008 College Football Team Preview

The LSU offense is stacked. There is an abundance of talent at the running back and receiver positions. The Tigers also have an experienced and talented offensive line. But who will be under center? Ryan Perrilloux, MVP of the SEC title game, was dismissed from the team for repeated team rules violations. The guys behind Perrilloux on the depth chart, Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch, have basically no experience at this level.

The LSU running game looks to be a three-headed monster. Keiland Williams (478 yards, 6 touchdowns), Charles Scott (439 total yards, 7 touchdowns) and Richard Murphy (304 total yards, 2 touchdowns) all figure to play a significant role in the LSU rushing attack.

The Tigers also have one of the best receiver tandems in the nation. Brandon LaFell and speedy Demetrius Byrd combined for 85 receptions, 1,277 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Tight end Richard Dickson is another great receiving threat. Read more..

Crossbows- TenPoint, Excalibur, Horton, Barnett, And The Evolution From Primitive To Perfection

Crossbows- TenPoint, Excalibur, Horton, Barnett, And The Evolution From Primitive To Perfection

The crossbow is a weapon consisting of a bow mounted on a stock that shots projectiles, often called bolts.
They date back as early as 600 BC in China. Historically, crossbows played significant roles in warfare in early Asia, Europe and the Mediterranean . In the beginning days they were made of wood, as man progressed he learned to use metals such as iron and steel, which made these weapons much more powerful, accurate and deadly. Early crossbow strings were made of hemp as it was one of the strongest and least elastic fibers available.  In ancient times the bolts for the stronger crossbows were several times heavier than arrows. An early advantage of the crossbow was that it was an ideal weapon for young boys, old men or a sick soldier. One of the disadvantages of the crossbow was that it could only shoot two bolts per minute, versus a skilled longbow user that could release between 10-12 arrows per minute.  The crossbow was very popular with the ancient

2010 NCAA Football Predictions

With spring practice in the books, it’s time to start making your 2010 college football predictions.  I give mine below with the teams I predict will finish in the Top-10, along with a few teams just outside of it as well as my national champion.  If you want to beat the college football lines this season, then be sure to check out NCAA football picks to guide you to monster profits in 2010.

Top-10 Teams for 2010-11 Season:

1.)  Alabama – I smell a repeat with the pieces Nick Saban has in place.  It took this excellent college football coach only three years to bring a title back to Crimson Tide country, and he is primed to win another this year.  That’s because all of his playmakers are back on offense, from QB Greg McElroy to the RB tandem of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, all the way to WR’s Julio Jones and Marquis Maze.  This offense should be even more explosive than it was a year ago.  Only two starters return from the No. 2 defense in

April Fools Day

April Fools Day

April Fools’ Day

All Fools’ Day, although not a Festival in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbors, or sending them on fool’s errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only last until noon: someone who plays a trick after noon is called an “April Fool”.  Another origin is that April 1 was counted the first day of the year in France. When King Charles IX changed that to January 1, some people stayed with April 1. Those who did were called “April Fools” and were taunted by their neighbors.

Any how the quest of origin and the date from which the day is being celebrated is still haunting to many today. The origin of April Fools’ Day is obscure. One likely theory

Mountain West Football Predictions 2010

Mountain West Predictions

1. TCU Horned Frogs -TCU brings back a lot of talent from a team that finished the regular season 12-0 in 2009.  A loss to Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl cost the Horned Frogs a perfect season, and that loss should serve as a major motivator in 2010.  Led by QB Andy Dalton, the offensive should once again be explosive.  The defense may not be quite as good as it has been the last two years, but it won’t drop off much.  College football odds makers have listed TCU at +1500 to win the BCS championship.

2. Utah Utes – The Utes have won 10 or more games four times in the last seven years, and they should notch another double-digit win season in their last in the Mountain West Conference.  Right now, it looks like the league could be decided on November 6 when the Utes get the Horned Frogs at home.  They’ll be trying to avenge last year’s 27-point defeat,

3. BYU Cougars – BYU could fall further than this
