The Upcoming College Footbal Season

While college is meant to prepare students for the future, the future is now when it comes to taking in college football. With local stations, the national networks, cable, a fan can even watch football online, so no game can be missed. If the NCAA football Top 25 is any indication, the SEC is again the front runner with Alabama topping the ranking and Florida at 4th.

Saturday October 2nd looks to have National Championship implications in college football. This is one game that shouldn’t be missed, even if you have to watch football online. But the WAC, with the 3rd ranked Boise State Broncos, is set to make a statement on Labor Day weekend, as they will tangle with 10th ranked Virginia Tech Hokies. Mark your calendars for that date, even if you have to watch football online.

The big surprise going into this season, at least if it were 2011, is the much maligned Mountain West Conference. They will have two Top 10 ranked teams, same as

While betting on sports is only legal in a few places in the United States, such as Las Vegas, millions of office workers are involved in sports pools every week now that the football season has arrived.

When you know that more than 0 million can be bet on one gamethe Super Bowlin only Las Vegas, then you understand that billions were bet illegally on the Super Bowl last year in the United States and in offshore sports books around the world.

Folks in the gaming business know that more than a billion dollars is wagered on every Monday Night Football game during the season.

For those who wager, it may be helpful to put some science on your side when you wager, and one of the best places to do that is with the Sagarin College Football Ratings.

Created by Jeff Sagarin, a 1970 MIT mathematics graduate, these computer ratings are for Division I-A (what

Ed Bagley’s Top 25 Poll – Week 7

Copyright © 2009 Ed Bagley

It was a good week to be Florida, Alabama, Texas, Cincinnati, Boise State, Iowa and TCU—all won, and all are the only unbeaten major teams left in the nation. Every one of them are beatable, the only monster thing about any of them are the college publicity departments that promote them. Here’s my Top 25 for the 7th week:

1) Alabama (7-0) – Hosted and beat a really game 5-1 South Carolina team 20-6, and is on track for a head-on collision with Florida for the SEC championship and a shot at the national title. Guess who has the best total defense in the nation? Answer: Alabama.

2) Florida (6-0) – Needed a 27-yard field goal at home with 9 seconds left to beat a 3-2 Arkansas team, 23-20, and keep the Razorbacks from pulling off the biggest upset of the year. Florida can be beat. Gators are still the defending national champions. Alabama beat Arkansas 35-7 at home. Guess who has the second best total defense in the nation?

A Look at the Big Ten

A Look at the Big Ten

The Big Ten Conference has become a two-team race and we are now just one week away from the dream match-up between Michigan and Ohio State. These two teams were looking ahead last weekend and both survived single-digit victories over bad teams. After these two programs, there is a clear-cut No. 3 team that plays just 25 minutes away from our main office in Wisconsin.

I stated a couple of weeks ago that Wisconsin and Iowa would be vying for the third spot and a berth in the Capitol One Bowl when the two teams met on Nov. 11. But since then Iowa has fallen apart and it will be interesting to see what kind of effort they give this week. Coach Ferentz has won the last four meetings in this series and it well be interesting to see if he can get his team up for this border rivalry after such a disappointing 2006 season. The following will recap some of the highlights from last weekend and preview a very important week ahead:

Iowa hosted Northwestern

Friday Night College Football – West Virginia vs Cincinnati ? Live Match

West Virginia vs Cincinnati College Football Picks Predictions: Tomorrow night the West Virginia Mountaineers and Cincinnati Bearcats will meet in a huge Big East clash at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Not only could the Big East title be on the line for Brian Kelly’s squad, but so could a potential BCS National Championship bid. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm ET on ESPN2.

West Virginia rebounded from a 19-30 loss at South Florida by beating Louisville 17-9 in Morgantown last weekend. The Mountaineers West Virginia vs Cincinnati College Football Picks Predictionswere anything but impressive offensively in the win, producing just 14 first downs and 273 total yards. Quarterback Jarret Brown completed 9-of-17 pass attempts for 94 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Noel Devine also had a lackluster outing, rushing for 56 yards in 13 carries. Regardless of the unimposing nature of the victory, it still improved West Virginia’s record to

Top 3 Big Ten Football Picks for the 2009 College Football Season

Never has a conference been so overwhelmingly celebrated at the beginning of the season, and so completely dismissed at the end of the season as the Big Ten. Every year it seems as if Ohio State is just coming up short or Penn State is losing the big one. The mistake people make is in so vehemently disrespecting the conference once the national championship inevitably goes to someone else after weeks of anticipation that “this could be the year.”

Truth is this: the Big Ten is a quality football conference that perhaps receives too much attention and cannot possibly, and with consistency, live up to the pressure. No matter. Getting ready for the 2009 college football season, there are some great bets to be made, and these are the top three football picks from the Big Ten conference you should look out for:

3. Michigan State: Last season, the Spartans logged nine wins and four losses. Running back Javon Ringer kept the Spartans in the conference

2008 BCS Championship Game – Ohio State Buckeyes x LSU Tigers: highlights of VERNON GHOLSTON, #50

Titans stun Cards on last play, win 5th straight

Vince Young outdueled Matt Leinart again with yet another spectacular winning drive.

Young hit a leaping Kenny Britt for a 10-yard touchdown as time expired, and the Tennessee Titans rallied to beat the Arizona Cardinals 20-17 Sunday for their fifth straight victory.

Young won his ninth straight start and improved to 23-11 in his career by driving the Titans 99 yards in the final 2:37. He converted three fourth downs on the drive, two to Britt. He threw for a career-high 387 yards in beating Leinart in their first meeting as professionals and first overall since the BCS national championship in January 2006.

The Titans (5-6) have not lost since Young replaced Kerry Collins as the starter. They are the first team to win five in a row after starting 0-6.

Arizona (7-4) snapped a three-game winning streak. Leinart made his first start since Oct. 7, 2007 as the Cardinals sat Kurt Warner with a sore neck, looking ahead to an NFC matchup with
